Catharina Lorentz was born in Germany where she studied industrial design at the Fachhochschule Darmstadt. She worked in England and Germany and then moved to Milan in 1995 to work for Scottsass Associati. Steffen was also born in Germany where he studied design at the Academy of Art in Hamburg. He then got his master degree in Furniture from the Royal College of Art in London. Steffen Kaz worked for various design studios in New York and moved to Milan in 1998 where he worked for James Irvine. They founded the design studio Lorenz * Kaz in 2001 working for various clients and they also launched there own furniture line
